CYTÛN SUPPORTED APPEAL FOR WELSH BIBLE IN BRAILLE
There
are Welsh-speaking Christians who cannot read the Bible in their own language –
because they are blind. Having the New Testament and Psalms in Welsh in Braille
would be a great blessing for them. That’s the aim of this appeal.
The Bible Society and others have already promised substantial donations. But £10,000 still needs to be raised. The Appeal Committee hopes that churches and the public in general will respond generously, so that this work may be done soon.
It’s true that only a small number of people would benefit from having the New Testament and Psalms in Welsh in Braille, but we believe that everyone has the right to read the Bible in their own language. Once the work is done, it will be available for future generations.
In supporting the appeal, broadcaster Sulwyn Thomas said : I’m extremely pleased to promote this particular campaign. With the support of churches and chapels in Wales, I’m sure we’ll hit the target of £10,000 in no time at all. Rhian Evans, a good friend of mine, can join in the singing in chapel on Sunday because she has the hymns in Braille. There are hundreds of books in Braille. The greatest book of them all should be available in Welsh in Braille. Let’s try to accomplish this before Christmas. That’s my challenge to Welsh Christians.
People are invited to contribute by making a cheque out to The Bible Society and sending it to : Dr Watcyn James ( Welsh Bible in Braille Appeal ) 94 Ffordd Penygarn, Tycroes, Ammanford, Carmarthenshire SA18 3PF.
