At a meeting of the Free Church Council of Wales a new President was commissioned and appointed. The Revd Martin Spain took over the position from Revd Pam Cram and the Council has witnessed two historic milestones as a result.
The Revd Cram is the first female to hold the office of Moderator/President and she was in the post from 2004 - 2007. Pam is a Methodist Minister in Clydach near Swansea and has contributed a considerable amount of her time and effort to steer the Council during her term of Office.
In handing over the reigns to Revd Spain, the Council appointed its first President from one of the smallest denominations in Wales. Martin is a Minister in West Wales and is an English Congregationalist. Although trained by the Welsh Independents, he was ordained by the English Congregational Church at Ammanford and has spent all his Ministry within that denomination. Martin is also a serving police officer with Dyfed Powys Police.
In thanking Pam for all her efforts, Martin mentioned the uniqueness of the occasion and outlined his desire to continue with the work already underway to develop a more outward looking council that can work with all its partners in Wales, in particular Cytûn (Churches together in Wales), whilst maintaining the independence of the Free Churches.
The Free Church Council of Wales is made up of the Methodists, Presbyterians, Baptists, Salvation Army, Congregationalists and Welsh Independents and is open to other non conforming Churches. The President represents the member denominations at National events.
